The University awarded a contract for Fire Alarm Panel Service to SimplexGrinnell, Addison, IL, for an estimated $87,337.
The University is acquiring services from SimplexGrinnell because the current configuration of Fire Alarm Panels is 98 percent manufactured by the vendor. This also includes the peripherals associated with the panels. The vendor currently has the parts and trained service personnel to conduct the repairs to the system. In addition with the age of two of our eleven Simplex Fire Alarm Panels being over 20 years old, other vendors that I checked with do not have the parts or the knowledge to work on those panels. In the event of a fire panel or system malfunction, the vendor has direct access to newly manufactured replacement parts and knowledgeable technicians to install and repair. No renewal options and this procurement will be re-bid in FY13.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the compatibility of equipment, accessories, replacement parts, or service is a paramount consideration.

Written Comments

Testimony
