The University awarded a contract for Definity perflutren lipid microspheres.
Activated DEFINITY perflutren lipid microsphere injectable suspension is indicated for use in patients to opacify the left ventricular chamber and to improve the delineation of the left ventricular endocardial border.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Lantheus was selected because the Echo Cardio Lab is calibrated for their Definity contrast solution. Definity perflutren lipid microspheres exhibit lower acoustic impedance than blood and enhance the intrinsic backscatter of blood. These physical acoustic properties of activated Definity provide contrast enhancement of the left ventricular chamber and aid delineation of the left ventricular endocardial border during echocardiography. Activated Definity perflutren lipid microsphere injectable suspension is indicated for use in patients to opacify the left ventricular chamber and to improve the delineation of the left ventricular endocardial border. Definity is required to accurately diagnose patients at the University of Illinois Hospital.
