The University awarded a contract for disposable cardiac catheters combo wires.
The Volcano disposable cardiac catheters combo wires are used in coronary angiography procedures. A pressure wire study can be carried out during coronary angiography. The device measures pressure difference in the narrowed arteries around the heart and highlights reduced blood flow to the heart muscle. Using this information can help the surgeon determine whether the patient requires further treatment.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Volcano Corporation surgical supplies are used in coronary angiography procedures that have to do with direct patient care. Without access to these disposable cardiac catheters combo wires, the Hospital would not be able to offer coronary angiography procedures that would drive patients elsewhere and a result in a loss on revenue to the Hospital.
