The University awarded a contract for UltraPulse DUO CO2 laser system.
The UltraPulse DUO is a CO2 laser system. The laser is designed to deliver CO2 laser energy via an articulated arm or through a CO2 laser fiber. This will allow precision and access to hard-to-reach anatomies. The laser will allow the surgeon to choose Continuous Wave or UltraPulse (tissue sparing) energy delivery.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The UltraPulse DUO laser will allow us to provide continuity of technology. The main operating room has a UltraPulse DUO laser that was purchased in 2019. This laser has been helping provide superior patient outcomes, mainly for ENT procedures. The laser is upgradeable, allowing the Hospital the capability to add accessories for other specialties if needed, including: Neurosurgery, ENT, Podiatry, Gynecology, Urology, Dermatology, Plastic Surgery, and ENT Facial Plastics.
