The University awarded a contract for research services for grading Fundus photographs .
A Research Grant awarded by the National Eye Institute (sponsor) was transferred to University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) due to Dr. Rohit Varma’s appointment to the UIC Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences . The ongoing research services provided by the University of Wisconsin Ocular Epidemiology Reading Center have been mandated as “essential” by the sponsor. This conclusion was based upon the necessity of unwarranted variability in research study results and project integrity.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes in the procurement code because the procurement expenditures are for events or activities for which the use of specific vendors is mandated or identified by the sponsor of the event or activity, provided that the sponsor is providing a majority of the funding for the event or activity.
