The University awarded a contract for Cardiovascular Systems Inc. surgical supplies..
Cardiovascular Systems Inc. surgical supplies are used in laryngoscopy procedures. The DIAMONDBACK 360 Coronary Orbital Atherectomy Device is slotted through a low-profile catheter over the VIPERWIRE Coronary Guide Wire and powered by a saline infusion to help cool the system. The Orbital Atherectomy System reduces plaque on the coronary vessel walls by using an orbiting, diamond-coated crown within coronary arteries in order to facilitate stent delivery. As the speed of the crown's rotation increases, centrifugal force increases the crown's radius of orbit and presses the diamond grit coated offset crown against the lesion or plaque, removing a small amount of plaque from coronary vessel walls with each orbital pass. The sanded plaque is broken down into particles generally smaller than circulating red blood cells that are washed away downstream with the patient's natural blood flow. Cardiovascular Systems consist of scoring balloons, guide wires, catheter and any additional ancillaries.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The surgical supplies provided by Cardiovascular Systems have to do with direct patient care service. Without this type of patient supplies the hospital will not be able to provide this type of procedure and a patient will go else where and intern we will take a loss in revenue.
