The University awarded a contract for medical supplies.
The medical supplies provided by Mammotome, a division of Devicor Medical Products Inc., are used in breast biopsy. Supplies purchased from Devicor Medical are different gauges or sizes of biopsy needles.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The procedural supplies provided by Devicor Medical are for direct patient care service. Without this type of patient supplies, the hospital will not be able to provide this type of procedure and a patient will go elsewhere and in turn, we will take a loss in revenue.
