The University awarded a contract for dental burs and bur blocks.
This purchase is for dental burs and bur blocks used in patient care clinics for dental procedures at the College of Dentistry.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) If another vendor were brought in at this time, additional money would need to be invested to change over all accessory items that are currently used to support current products. For example, the College has invested in the purchase of special blocks to hold the dental burs during sterile processing. Any new vendor would either have to donate new blocks to replace current ones or would require the College to absorb the cost.
