The University awarded a contract for physiological monitoring equipment.
Physiological monitors provide continuous measurement of key patient parameters such as heart rate and rhythm, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and blood-oxygen saturation. In addition to alerting caregivers to potentially life-threatening changes in a patients condition, constant monitoring of these parameters is used to make decisions about patient management and therapeutic interventions.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The purchase of GE monitors insures that the devices are compatible with and able to integrate within the current clinical and IT infrastructure. This purchase will remain consistent across the hospital in patient monitoring devices and continuum of care for patients.
