Announcement of an Exempt Purchase

This vendor will produce a series of a pre-K educational TV shows geared to a SNAP-ed population about nutrition and healthy lifestyle. The primary topics being nutrition, fruits and vegetables and physical activity. They will lean on our curriculum, UIC's Hip Hop to Health (HH2H). They will design and build the Puppets, which will be used as the characters in the show, they will also build out all sets and custom backgrounds. Their scriptwriters will convert the lessons to shows and the soundtrack will be professionally written, composed and recorded for the show by their on staff musicians.

This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This project has been the culmination of years of work in very diverse settings converging at the same time all with similar missions. This project is consistent with the USDA SNAP-Ed grant and will help move the programs mission of improving the health of Chicagos children forward by creating wider and more diverse access to educational content. This also aligns with the universitys mission around community engagement.
