The University awarded a contract for training services for caregivers.
This purchase is for training services for caregivers of medically-complex, technology-dependent children. A sizable amount of the care required by these individuals involves clinical skills above and beyond that which is taught in nursing programs. The trainings for the nurses and caregivers offers them a chance to have refresher trainings and to build on their existing skills, so that they can better care for these individuals.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) The goal for the Trainings is to improve the skill and comfort level of home nurses and/or family caregivers of individuals with medical complexity. The funds for these trainings is part of the Federal Medical Assistance Percentage, FMAP. FMAP funding is to be used for efforts to enhance, expand, or strengthen Medicaid home and Community Based Waiver services. Division of Specialized Care for Children is the operating agency for the Medically-Fragile Technology-Dependent waiver, a Medicaid Home and Community Based Waiver. Division of Specialized Care for Children and Illinois Healthcare and Family Services partnered together to develop this initiative as part of the FMAP opportunity to improve, expand, and strengthen services for the medically-complex population. This initiative supports training as a mechanism to help improve the quality of care in the home and community setting.
