The University awarded a contract for infusion sets.
Becton Dickinson infusion sets and supplies are used with infusion pumps that deliver fluids to patients in large or small amounts, and are used to deliver nutrients or medications - such as insulin or other hormones, antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs, and pain relievers. A number of commonly used infusion pumps are designed for specialized purposes.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Becton Dickinson disposable supplies have to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these specific supplies needed for the Hospital and new Outpatient Surgery Center, we would not be able to deliver critical nutrients and or medications to patients under the University's care and that in turn would drive patients elsewhere for this treatment and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
