The University awarded a contract for surgical disposables and ancillary supplies.
Ambu offers disposables and ancillary supplies used in surgical procedures such as Cystoscopy, a procedure that lets the healthcare provider view the urinary tract. Ambu also provides disposable resuscitation masks that manually assist patient's breathing during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, suctioning, and intra hospital transport of patients requiring breathing assistance.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Ambu provides supplies used in surgical procedures such as Cystoscopy, a procedure that lets the healthcare provider view the urinary tract, particularly the bladder, urethra and the openings to the ureters. Cystoscopy can help find problems with the urinary tract. This may include early signs of cancer, infection, narrowing, blockage, or bleeding. Ambu also provides disposable resuscitation masks used to manually assist a patient's breathing. These devices are commonly used during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, suctioning, and intra hospital transport of patients who require breathing assistance. The AmbuBU medical device and disposables has to do with direct patient treatment and care. Without access to these specific medical device and ancillaries the Hospital would not be able to deliver proper care to patients under the University's care, which would drive patients elsewhere and result in a loss of revenue to the Hospital.
