The University awarded a contract for medical and surgical supplies.
Fisher Healthcare is a med/surg and laboratory distribution vendor providing a wide range of supplies for use in the Hospital Pathology Laboratories which are crucial to the operation of instrumentation, the collection of patient specimens, and the testing of those specimens.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Fisher provides supplies a range of supplies which are crucial for patient care in the Hospital. Being able to source supplies from multiple manufacturers from one distributor helps the laboratory to run more efficiently, and to simplify operations. It is necessary to be able to source products from multiple vendors in the face of supply chain challenges.
