The University awarded a contract for a Microflex LRF MALDI-TOF.
Microflex LRF MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometer. This instrument is for the measurement of molecular weight of peptide/protein and small molecules.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This instrument is for the measurement of molecular weight of peptide/protein and small molecules. The samples can be either purified or extracted samples from biological samples such as tissue, serum. The instrument operation is easy and simple. It will be a great instrument to serve UIC faculties and students in walk-up service. Furthermore, the analysis speed is much faster than the current LC/MS setup for protein, peptide and small molecule analysis. The analysis time of 50 peptide/small molecule samples on MALDI TOF (from sample prep to data analysis) is about 1hr compared to 10 hrs on LC/MS.
