The University awarded a contract for radiation oncology services.
The Radiation Oncology Department serves approximately 500 new patients, 7,000 routine visits, and 4,000 image-guided treatments annually. UIC is an active academic environment with the institution supporting residencies and fellowships in all oncology related specialties. To effectively provide services under this program, the UIC requires third party staffing for specific professional services for the Radiation Oncology Department.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The University does not have employed physicians and as part of the College has limited employed medical physicists. These services are required in order to provide critical radiation therapy services for inpatients and outpatients, as well as to support other hospital oncology related services. These critical services are required 24 hours per day, seven days per week, and 365 days per year.
