The University awarded a contract for Intravenous Immune Globulin.
Intravenous Immune Globulin (IVIG) - IVIG is therapeutically essential for transplant, pediatric, and neurology patients among others. A significant portion of IVIG use is for transplant patients as part of their immunomodulation therapy.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) There is a national shortage of IVIG, the manufacturer of the product we use is no longer making it available in the U.S., other companies that produce IVIG are not taking new customers, and we use 1000 grams per month in the hospital on a variety of patients. There is no substitute drug product for patients who need IVIG.
