The University awarded a contract for Mental Health Counselors.
The therapy/counseling sessions offered to our students are essential for their health. As a satellite school, separated from the main UIC Campus, it means our students would be required to travel some distance in order to find appropriate Health services offered by UIC. In addition to providing individual and relationship counseling to students, the vendor will provide consultation on matters of student mental health to the Student Support and Emergency Team.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) The Empowered Therapy team provides as-needed workshops for the community (students, staff, or faculty) such as grief counseling to the community after a student death, speaking at faculty meetings about how to help manage student stress, offering workshops to staff about stress during institutional mergers, and are invited to speak directly in a number of classes.
