The University awarded a contract for ChemMatCARS Upgrade Component.
These components will be integrated into custom designed and built instruments previously ordered from Axilon (Double-Crystal/Multilayer Monochromator (DCMM), Side Bounce Monochromator (SBM), and Compound Refractive Lens (CRL)) that are currently being designed and fabricated. These new items are out of the scope of the original Statement of Work for the previously ordered instruments. The advantage of ordering these from Axilon is three-fold: 1) they will be integrated into the factory acceptance testing in Germany, 2) they will then be fully integrated for installation at the Advanced Photon Source beamline that UIC is building, and (3) their integration requires proprietary knowledge of the DCMM, SBM, and CRL instrumentation currently under order from Axilon.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) This procurement provides specialized, upgrade components that are required to fulfill the scientific needs described in the National Science Foundation grant #1836674 (UIC grant code E0323) awarded to Mark Schlossman of the UIC Department of Physics.
