The University awarded a contract for Medical Supplies (Micra/Cobalt).
Supply of Medical supplies Micra/Cobalt are lead-less and used to be implanted when the patients previously implanted pacemaker and leads have to be removed due to infection.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) This device can be implanted while the patient is getting Antibiotic therapy with no concern for lead or pocket infection. Without the required supplies, the physicians will not be able to perform and provide the proper level of care for patients. In addition, the patients will go elsewhere for their care and the University will be losing revenue.
