The University awarded a contract for Novel Light Weight Materials and Structures.
The University's Mechanical Science & Engineering Department has a need to procure novel lightweight materials and structures for high-rate energy absorbing applications. The system will be compatible with existing equipment including the Departments current Split Hopkinson (Kolsky) Bar System. The materials and structures will be used for research purposes.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for performing sponsored research and other sponsored activities under grants and contracts funded by the sponsor or by sources other than State appropriations. (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b)(8)) .
