The University awarded a contract for endoscopic equip. for use in small animal surgery.
The Veterinary Teaching Hospital is in need of a new endoscope for surgery services. The equipment is necessary to provide standard of care for minimally invasive procedures and provides the ability to perform laparoscopic and thoracoscopic surgeries. Without this equipment, a number of surgeries being currently provided at specialty hospitals across the country will not be possible here at the University of Illinois.
This purchase is exempt from the usual selection processes of the Procurement Code because the procurement expenditure is for medical supplies or medical services necessary for the delivery of care and treatment at medical, dental, or veterinary teaching facilities utilized by SIU or U of I (30 ILCS 500 / 1-13(b-5)) Karl Storz is the sole source manufacturer of the equipment and Karl Storz Veterinary Endoscopy ? America, Inc. is the exclusive distributor of this product to the veterinary market in the United States
