The University awarded a contract for security equipment and installation to Convocation.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which
immediate repairs were needed to prevent further loss or damage to University property
The purchase and installation of this security and surveillance equipment is an emergency due to the increasing prevalence of theft in the Jones Convocation Center. Over $20,000 of athletic equipment has recently been stolen. With the increased value of equipment that is now being stored and installed into the Convocation Center daily, this expensive equipment is in jeopardy of being stolen, to which the University is neither funded nor capable of replacing such equipment. Additionally, the facility is increasingly being rented out for general public events. On June 6th there will be a Chicago Public Schools graduation. On July 6th, the first general public rap concert (sold through Ticketmaster) will be taking place. Guaranteeing the safety and security of the expected sold-out crowd is imperative. Due to the above factors, time is of the essence, and a delay in such could cause loss or damage to property and/or create unsafe conditions to the general public, and thus, injury to persons.
