Chicago State University
Bid #1102IT
Invitation for Bid: Wireless LAN Wi-Fi
Change Order
Published Monday October 17, 2011
Vendor: Information System Group, Inc.
Change Order amount: $89,000

Details:

Item 1: The University did not initially request plenum cable for the radios connection. Plenum is used for all cabling in Chicago State University buildings.

Item 2: The edge switches that network the radios are not Power Over Ethernet (POE), thus mid-spans are needed to power the radios. At the time of the bid, it was expected that our edge switch upgrade project would be completed or near completion.

Item 3: Gbits and fiber patch cables are needed in the data center to connect the Meru controllers and our network switches

Item 4: Cages are being purchased to protect the wireless radios where ceiling is low in the Residence Hall (RH) building and in the Jacoby Dickens Center (JDC) where basketballs could potentially hit and damage the wireless radios.

Item 5: The cost reflects purchasing and labor for the installation of wire molds, plates, and cabling material in substitute of using conduits for cable runs in all 13 campus buildings.
The University award process may be delayed up to thirty days as this award goes through a state approval process.

Chicago State University (CSU) is seeking to deploy a WLAN network with the purpose of covering 100% of all internal building locations as well as the outdoor common areas across from the north property line inclusive of all campus, and from the western boundary to the tree line, and including 13 buildings to support the students, faculty, and any guest for transmission of voice, video and data over Wi-Fi. Specifically, CSU is looking for a technology to provide an enterprise mesh (without introducing delays or hops). CSU is also looking to minimize wire pulls, and will favor technology that incorporates repeaters over technology which proliferates Access Points. The system should incorporate load balancing and redundancy between Access Points.
Floor plans of the campus buildings can be acquired at http://webs.csu.edu/~aowens21 , login is csucontractor and the password is 4452csu for your use. This connection will be available until July 30th. In addition, a pre-proposal meeting is scheduled on Tuesday, July 27th at 10:00 a.m. to perform a walkthrough of the campus facilities and answer any questions. The meeting will be held at room 144 in the CSU Library Building at 9501 S. King Dr. Chicago, Illinois.
