The University awarded a contract for Broadband Service.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was needed to prevent any disruption in University services.
The conditions and circumstances requiring this emergency purchase are: Business Only Broadband provides approximately 60% of the University's broadband service. The rest of the service is provided by AT&T, ICN in combination. AT&T and ICN both share the same last five miles of fiber. If there is a service disruption or fiber cut AT&T, ICN would lose service. Business Only Broadband provides diversity of providers because it does not share its last 5 miles with AT&T. Therefore the University would still be able to continue to operate albeit on a reduced level if AT&T is down and Business Only Broadband is still up. Alternatively, If Business Only Broadband is down, the University would still have broadband service from AT&T. The university runs its ERP system Banner as a web service and 90% of all university employees would not be able to perform their normal work duties if the University is not able to supply any internet service. Therefore it is critical to university operations that it have diverse and redundant internet services from different providers.
