The Board of Trustees of Eastern Illinois University hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the plumbing work for fire protection systems for University Court Apartments, Phase II project.
Eastern Illinois University is accepting bids for the above mentioned project. Sealed bids will be received for plumbing contracts until Tuesday, January 13, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. prevailing timeand sealed bids will be received for sprinkler contracts until Wednesday, January 14, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. prevailing time. Each bid will be opened at their respective time in the Office of the Director of Purchases, Room 1135 Old Main, at which time they will be opened and read publicly.
A pre-bid conference will be scheduled at Facilities Planning & Management Office on December 22, 2003 at 1:30 P.M.
The scope of work on the sprinkler contract will be to install a wet pipe sprinkler system in six residential apartments on the EIU campus at University Court Apartments. The work involves installation of a wet pipe sprinkler system, connection to existing fire alarm system, installation of new domestic water main in each building, construction and installation of metal soffits to enclose pipe, and installation of one interior door.
The scope of work on the base bid of the plumbing contract includes capping existing mains, tapping existing city domestic water mains, and installing new water mains to six buildings. The alternate bid will include tapping an existing city water main and installing a new fire protection main to the Buzzard Education Building. It also includes excavation, backfill and site restoration.

All bids from contractors must be on the Bid Proposal Form included in the Project Manual. Bidders must submit their bids in accordance with the bidding instructions in Section 00100. The entire Bid Form must be completed in order to be considered.
Bid security in a dollar amount equal to five percent of the bid submitted must accompany each bid in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Each bidder must have completed the qualification requirements in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Statutory Bonds for performance of the contract and for payment of mechanics and materials will be required in an amount equal to 100 percent of the accepted bid.
Bids will be held good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 60 calendar days from the date of receipt.
All contractors must pay employees involved with construction on this project not less than the prevailing wage rate.
Eastern Illinois University specifically reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informality in the bidding and to accept bids which, in its judgment, will be for its own best interest.
Bidders are advised approximately 30 to 60 days may elapse between a vendor's submission of bill and the payment of such bill.
Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Tuesday, January 13, 2004. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.
