The Board of Trustees of Eastern Illinois University hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the remodeling and construction for a new food court project (Bid # KR007709-a).

Eastern Illinois University is accepting bids for the remodeling and addition work involved with creating a new food court on the second floor of the 1965 Addition to the Martin Luther King Jr. Union. Scope of work also includes remodeling work at the first floor and basement level mechanical room. The estimated construction cost ranges from $2,500,000 to $3,500,000.

Separate sealed bids for Plumbing work, Electrical work, Ventilation work, Heating work, Fire Protection work and Kitchen Equipment will be received until January 16, 2001, 2:00 P.M. prevailing time. Separate sealed bids for General Work, will be received until January 17, 2001, 2:00 P.M. prevailing time.

Each set of documents requires a deposit of $150, which is refundable upon return of documents in a usable form after bidding process is completed.

All bids from Contractors must be on the Bid Proposal Form included in the Specification Manual. Bidders must submit their bids in accordance with the bidding instructions in Section 00100. Failure to complete the entire Bid Form may result in the bid not being accepted.

Bid security in a dollar amount equal to five percent of the bid submitted must accompany each bid in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Each bidder must have completed the qualification requirements in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Statutory Bonds for performance of the contract and for payment of mechanics and materials will be required in an amount equal to 100 percent of the accepted bid.

Bids will be held good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 60 calendar days from the date of receipt.

All contractors must pay employees involved with construction on this project not less than the prevailing wage rate.

Eastern Illinois University specifically reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities in the bidding and to accept bids which, in its judgement, will be for its own best interest.

Bidders are advised approximately thirty to sixty days may elapse between a vendor's submissions of bill and the payment of such bill.

Sealed envelopes containing the bids will be marked remodeling and construction for a new food court. Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Tuesday, January 16, 2001. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.

All bids must include:

  • All bidders must submit a PC-2 form as required by the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

A pre-bid conference is scheduled for 11 AM, January 4, 2001 in the Martinsville Room at the Martin Luther King Union.
