The Board of Trustees of Eastern Illinois University hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the cooling tower replacement for Carman Hall and Stevenson Hall project.
A pre-bid conference will be scheduled at the Facility Planning and Management Office Conference Room at 10:00 am, August 10, 2004.
The scope of work for Carman Hall shall consist of the removal of existing single-cell cooling tower, and structural steel base from roof of Carman Hall (North Tower). Disconnect and remove condenser water piping back to roof penetration. Disconnect make-up water piping, and electrical feed. Install new structural steel base for new two-cell cooling tower. All exposed structural steel is to be painted as indicated. Install new two-cell cooling tower, and re-connect condenser water piping and make-up water piping. Install variable frequency drives (VFD) for each of the two fans, in ninth floor mechanical space as indicated. Intercept existing feed and extend to ninth floor mechanical space to feed new VFDs. Install conduit and wiring from VFDs to cooling tower fan motors.
The scope of work for Stevenson Hall shall consist of the removal of existing dual-cell cooling tower, and structural steel as indicated, from roof of Stevenson Hall. One section of the overhead support structure will be removed to allow removal of existing tower, and installation of the new tower. Disconnect and remove condenser water piping back to roof penetration. Disconnect make-up water piping, and electrical feed to tower. Install new structural steel members to create a support structure for the new single-cell cooling tower. All exposed structural steel in the tower area is to be painted as indicated. Install new single-cell cooling tower, and reconnect existing condenser water piping and make-up water piping.

Refundable Plan Deposit: $50
All bids from Contractors must be on the Bid Proposal Form included in the Project Manual. Bidders must submit their bids in accordance with the bidding instructions in Section 00100. The entire Bid Form must be completed in order to be considered.
Bid security in a dollar amount equal to five percent of the bid submitted must accompany each bid in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Each bidder must have completed the qualification requirements in accordance with the Instructions to Bidders. Statutory Bonds for performance of the contract and for payment of mechanics and materials will be required in an amount equal to 100 percent of the accepted bid.
Bids will be held good and may not be withdrawn for a period of 60 calendar days from the date of receipt.
All contractors must pay employees involved with construction on this project not less than the prevailing wage rate.
Eastern Illinois University specifically reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities in the bidding and to accept bids which, in its judgment, will be for its own best interest.
Bidders are advised approximately thirty to sixty days may elapse between a vendor's submission of bill and the payment of such bill.
Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Thursday, August 19, 2004. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.
