The Board of Trustees of Illinois State University hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the Watterson Towers Elevator Upgrade project (Bid # LB326).

This project includes two subdivisions of work, General Work and Elevator Work. Completion date for this project is May 31, 2004.

The scope for Elevator Work involves but is not limited to the replacement of existing DC hoisting machines and controllers in the upper machine room for Elevators 1 through 4 with new AC hoisting machines and ACVF SCR controllers, replacement of DC motors on existing hoisting machines in the Lower Machine Room for Elevators 5 thorugh 8 with new AC motors, replacement of existing machine controllers for Elevators 5 through 8 with new ACVF SCR controllers, restoration to like new condition or replacement of all elevator governors, replacement of all wiring in hoistways and cars, rebuilding all hoistway doors for all elevators with new rollers, relating cables & sheaves, and door gibs, replacing all hoistway door nylon track with new nylon track for Elevators 5 through 8, replacing all elevator car doors, rebuilding all elevator cab door operating mechanisms and track, replacement of all existing lobby call buttons with new vandal resistant call buttons, new digital car position indicators for each car in each lobby, refurbishment of all car interiors, replacement of existing car stations with new car stations, demolition of existing specified Elevator System components and wiring.

The scope for the General Work consists of roof work, mechanical work, and electrical work. The roof work involves but is not limited to the complete tear-off of the existing upper mechanical room's fully adhered single ply membrance roof and tapered rigid insulation, equipment rails, and roof hatch, providing new fully adhered single ply membrane roof and tapered insulation to existing roof deck and new equipment curbs, providing new wire and pipe penetrations, providing new ductwork access hole through existing concrete roof deck, providing a new roof hatch, and providing new metal guard rails at roof edge. The mechanical work involves but is not limited to removal of existing roof top condensing unit and indoor packaged air handling unit, installation of a new roof top air conditioning unit - cooling only, w/manufacturer's curb mounted to new structural curb. The electrical work involves but is not limited to replacement of exisitng lighting fixtures with new fixtures within the Upper and Lower Equipment Rooms, new CAT 5 cable and EMT from existing telephone panel to each new elevator controller, repair of an existing lighting air terminal and reconnection to the ground wire loop.

Bidding documents may be obtained at LZT Associates, Inc., 124 S.W. Adams St., Suite 450, Peoria, IL 61602. A $25.00 deposit for each set is required. Documents will be available on February 12, 2003. Each Contractor may obtain up to three complete sets of bidding documents. Subcontractors may obtain one complete set of bidding documents. Deposits for bidding documents shall be in the form of checks made payable to LZT Associates, Inc. or CIB-AGC Document Request/Security Cards. Deposits will be returned to bidders who return all complete sets of bidding documents in good condition to Architect/Engineer within ten days after date of opening of bids.

Sealed envelopes containing the bids will be marked Watterson Towers Elevator Upgrade. Bids will be received up to the hour of 11:00 AM local time, on Wednesday, March 26, 2003. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.

All bids must include:

  • Bid security (see complete bid for details)
  • A letter from a surety company in substantially the form set forth in the Instructions to Bidders assuring the issuance of the Performance and Payment Bond.
  • All bidders must submit a PC-2 form as required by the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

A mandatory pre-bid meeting is scheduled for March 3, 2003, 1:30 PM, ISU Facilities Planning Conference Room, 608 S. Main St., Normal, IL. This is a mandatory pre-bid meeting. If you are planning to submit a prime bid for this project, you must attend this meeting and your company name must appear on the offical attendance log. This log will be used in the bid opening process, and if your company's name does not appear on the log, your bid will not be opened.
