Project Description

Illinois State University is seeking professional engineering services from firms who have experience in university facilities renovations. The University?s administration has identified a University-owned facility at 301 S. Main Street, Normal, as the future home of a Multicultural Center to serve the student population at Illinois State. This new Center will provide opportunities for research and scholarship, support of faculty and staff affinity groups, along with alumni engagement. The main goal of the Multicultural Center is to provide nurturing of diversity and support and empowerment of our students of all cultures. The University?s office for Facilities Planning and Construction is providing complete scope of architectural services and coordination of the renovation work. This advertisement is directed to the engineering support services needed to complete the design and construction documents for public bidding including construction documents, specifications, bid services and construction administration services. Needed services and brief scope of work include:

Structural Engineering

Indicate structural support at all new exterior wall penetrations (windows), design support system for structural operable panel partitions and exterior concrete ramp, evaluation of existing structure system for installation of mechanical and fire protection system and enhanced sound-resistant ceiling(s). The existing double barrel roof system needing evaluation is comprised of bow string trusses and its structural design integrity is suspect.

Mechanical (HVAC) Engineering

Upgrade existing mechanical system to support new occupancy needs, in compliance with Illinois State construction guidelines and design standards, and all applicable codes.

Plumbing Engineering

Renovate existing restrooms, add new restrooms, add new catering kitchen and various new sink locations, install new fire protection system, in compliance with Illinois State construction guidelines and design standards, and all applicable codes.

Electrical Engineering

Provide new power, lighting and data systems to support new renovation needs, in compliance with Illinois State construction guidelines and design standards, and all applicable codes.

It is expected that a single team comprised of these disciplines will be assembled to provide the referenced services.

Only those firms which meet the following qualifications will be considered:
  • Submitted 1 copies of their qualifications.
  • Licensed to practice as an architect, landscape architect, or engineer in the State of Illinois.
  • Registered and authorized to do business in the State of Illinois.
  • Utilize an AutoCAD compatible system to provide documents.
  • There is a 20 percent BEP goal for this procurement. See solicitation documentation for details.
Selection will be consistent with the Architectural, Engineering, and Land Surveying Qualifications Based Selection Act (30 ILCS 535/1).

This transaction is subject to the State Board of Elections registration and certification requirements of Public Act 095-0971.
