Project Description

Illinois State University is seeking professional architectural, interior design and engineering services from firms who have experience in "Star Ginger" restaurant, or similar, restaurant type franchise design.

The Bone Student Center is currently undergoing a $32,900,000 revitalization project.  This revitalization project includes additions to the east and west ends of the concourse at both levels and renovations that encompass new food venues accessed from the concourse on both levels, a new bookstore location accessed from the concourse on the first level, and two new office complexes accessed from the concourse on the second level.

The University is securing a Star Ginger food franchise to be installed in the Bone Student Center.  This franchise design will require full services for food outlet design, layout of equipment for food preparation, and delivery to customers and appropriate customer queueing.  Multiple design reviews will be required.  Star Ginger will, upon final store design, provide information for specific branding to be incorporated into the "build out" design.

The selected A/E firm shall be responsible for design and refinement of:

  1. Store layout in the identified space on the 2nd floor of Bone Student Center
  2. Selection of kitchen equipment (non-brand specific list available from Star Ginger)
  3. Design and equipment selection of serving station(s) and point of sale location(s).
  4. Selection and design of finishes.
  5. Design of customer queuing pattern.
  6. Implementation of Star Ginger branding into design.

A/E firms interested in submitting their qualifications should have demonstrated knowledge experience, and expertise with facilities of this typology.  The designers and any required sub-consultants will be responsible for developing a comprehensive construction budget and schedule for this project.  It is planned for work to begin in the spring/summer of 2019 to coincide with the completion of the revitalization project in the spring of 2020.  The construction should be sequenced to allow the building and its operations to remain open.

As a project funded by the University, the following are required:

  • Complete A/E 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) during the entire design process
