Project Description

Illinois State University is seeking architecture and engineering firms with commercial laundry design and operations experience.

University Housing Services (UHS) operates a commercial laundry on campus at Illinois State University for UHS and for summer conference operations, campus dining centers, custodial services, and various other departments on campus.  This laundry center cleans bed linens, tablecloths, uniforms, and various custodial equipment.  This laundry center has operated for many years.  The existing laundry building, located near the John Green warehouse building on the north part of campus, is served by a loading dock and includes six commercial washing machines and seven commercial clothes dryers, along with various other equipment.  Sorting and storage areas are also located in the facility.

The successful architecture and or engineering firm will demonstrate qualifications and experience in evaluating existing commercial laundry facilities and recommending improvements. The awarded firm will be responsible for programming and design of an efficient Illinois State University laundry operation and redesign of the current laundry facility to support the laundry program.  Issues to be addressed include, but are not limited to:

  1. UHS must meet current and future laundry needs in an efficient, cost-effective manner.
  2. UHS must manage the intermittent peak demands of laundry service.
  3. Evaluate existing equipment and specify equipment capable of meeting these needs.

Architecture and Engineering firms interested in submitting their qualifications should have knowledge and expertise with laundry facilities, and demonstrate industry-specific experience.  The designers and any required sub-consultants will be responsible for developing a comprehensive plan, construction budget and schedule for this project.
