Northeastern Illinois University is accepting bids for a laser scanner that will be used to create three-dimensional virtual models of archaeological or fossil specimens. These models can then be manipulated using a variety of computer programs (e.g., Geomagic Studio, Landmark Editor) to take measurements such as surface areas, volumes, and linear distance. The Anthropology Department desires to acquire a laser scanner for the purposes of studying very small (< 1 mm) primate dentition as well as other fossil and archaeological specimens.
