The GEAR UP federal grant program is sponsoring a conference centered on the use of young adult literature, March 2-3, for teachers in program schools. The purpose is to encourage teachers to use engaging young adult books with their students. The conference features 12 young adult books; teachers receive 4 titles of their choice before the conference and are eligible to receive class sets (30 copies) of books to use with their students afterwards. The featured books are written specifically for students ranging from 12-17 years of age and come from a number of different publishers. Some required titles are in Spanish.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
vendor, Lake Cook Distributors, specializes in the sale of books for students in grades 6 through 12--exactly the age group that GEAR UP serves. Lake Cook Distributors provides a wide range of titles for the target age group at a competitive price and is able to deliver their product within the time requirements of the conference.
