Northern Illinois University awarded a contract for carpet tile in the amount of $70,200 on Friday, February 25, 2005 . Northern Illinois University will purchase a first-run carpet tile from Milliken & Co. for their library and Lincoln Residence Hall. This is a proprietary purchase direct from the manufacturer due to a manufacturer error. (Milliken produced this carpet for another client but it had the wrong background color). NIU is able to purchase this time-sensitive opportunity of carpet at a greatly discounted price. This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which items available on the spot market or at discounted prices were available for a limited time such that sound business judgement mandated a purchase immediately to take advantage of the availability and price.
