The University awarded a contract for a DAZZLER Acousto-Optic System.
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which
the need for services to protect or further University interests was immediate and use of other competitive source selection procedures under the Illinois Procurement Code could not have been accomplished without significant risk of causing disadvantages to the University.
This emergency purchase is for the procurement of a specialized laser-beam shaping system for use in laser beam diagnostics and physics research suitable for a variety of applications ranging from high-energy physics, to material science (electron microscopy), to Homeland Security applications.
Because this expenditure is funded by remaining monies on a grant that is about to expire, competitive selection was not feasible given time constraints and obligation deadlines. Therefore, this emergency purchase is required to guarantee that remaining grant monies are not forfeited, and to ensure that continuing research is not compromised.
The University reserves the right to amend this emergency purchase as needed.
