The University awarded a contract for an Environmental Assessment for BTOP project .
This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which immediate action was warranted to avoid the lapse or loss of federal or donated funds.
Northern Illinois University has received a federal National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) Broadband Technology Opportunity Program grant to deploy an 870-mile broadband network across the northwest Illinois region to serve 500 community anchor institutions including schools, public safety entities, libraries, government facilities, community colleges, and healthcare providers, with the capability to serve an additional 130 anchor institutions. This emergency purchase is for an environmental assessment of the coverage area for the Broadband Technology Opportunity Program grant. The granting agency has placed a time limit to comply with special award conditions before releasing funding for project implementation. Therefore, we must secure the environmental assessment quickly to comply with the grant award requirements.
