The University intends to award a contract for the NIU Institute for Neutron Therapy.
This sole source is for a multi-year agreement with Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory (aka Fermilab) and Universities Research Association, Inc. (operating as prime contractor for Fermilab on behalf of the U.S. Department of Energy), for NIU to oversee and manage clinical operations of the NIU Institute for Neutron Therapy at Fermilab. The initial contract period runs from FY11 through FY15, with an additional five-year renewal option (through FY20) that may be exercised at the end of the initial contract period.
The posted dollar amount for this multi-year agreement is an estimated amount only based on anticipated annual expenses. Actual expenditures may be more or less depending on need, availability of funds, and fiscal-year economic climates. The University reserves the right to amend this sole source for reasons including but not limited to increasing (or decreasing) the dollar amount and/or period of coverage, as needed.
This purchase is only economically available from a single source because the
highly specialized facility capabilities, services, technology, clinical neutron delivery platform, and proximate location unique to Fermilab are singularly feasible for this agreement with NIU.
