Northern Illinois University awarded a contract for emergency repair of bus turnaround at Holmes Student Center in the amount of $65,000 on Tuesday, August 16, 2005 . Emergency repairs are needed due to unexpected deterioration causing depressions in the pavement which are putting dangerous amounts of stress on utility lines (including natural gas lines) that run under the turnaround area. This is an even greater concern with the increased bus traffic that will occur with the start of the fall semester. This emergency/quick purchase was required due to a situation in which public health or safety was threatened.
