The Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University hereby requests letters of interest from architects/engineers to provide professional services for the following University project:

Project Name: Replace Fire Alarms - General Campus
Project Budget: $600,000


Description of the Project:
This project will continue the effort on the Carbondale campus to replace inadequate fire alarm systems that do not comply with fire and safety codes and ADA requirements.

Life Science II is one of the buildings most in need of an upgrade to their fire alarm system. This project will provide a new code compliant fire alarm system for Life Science II identified as having the highest priority. The new system must meet the latest codes and regulations as adopted by the State of Illinois and the Office of the State Fire Marshall''s Office. The alarm system will generally consist of an addressable automatic fire alarm system with smoke and heat detection, public address, audio-visual notification, manual pull stations and fire alarm activated elevator controls.

The design and construction budgets:

  • Design Budget: $60,000
  • Construction Budget: $540,000
Only those firms which meet the following qualifications will be considered for selection:
  • Licensed to practice as an architect/engineer in the State of Illinois.
  • Prequalified with the State of Illinois Capital Development Board (CDB).
The following project-related criteria will be used to evaluate the consulting firms requesting consideration for selection:
  • Prior firm experience with similar projects.
  • Appropriate staff size and disciplines.
  • Prior performance of firm and its consultants with completed projects at Southern Illinois University and with other State Higher Educational Institutions.
Consulting firms should submit six copies of their letter of interest, documentation of qualifications, and current CDB Form 255, by November 24, 2003, addressed to:
