The Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University Carbondale hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the new Student Health Programs Facility project.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale will be accepting bids for the construction of a new (two-story, approx. 63,000 sq. ft.) Student Health Programs Facility to be located at the southeast corner of the Student Recreation Center on the Carbondale campus.

Separate sealed bids will be accepted for: General, Electrical, Ventilation, Plumbing, Heating and Sprinkler Work. The general contractor will be the coordinator.

All work associated with this contract titled "Southern Illinois University, Student Health Programs" must be completed by June 01, 2005.

All bids must be submitted on the "Request for Quotation" form provided by the Purchasing Department. Faxed bids will not be accepted.

A bid security in a dollar amount equal to 5% of the bid submitted shall accompany each bid in accordance with the bid documents. An indemnity (performance) bond will be required in the amount equal to 100% of the accepted bid will be required from the successful contractor.

Each bidder must have a current Illinois Department of Human Rights number.

All bidders must pay employees involved with construction on this project not less than the prevailing wage rate.

Southern Illinois University reserves the right to reject any or all bids and to waive any informalities in the bid process and to accept bids which, in its judgment will be in its own best interest.

Bids shall be held firm and may not be withdrawn for a period of 60 calendar days from the date of receipt.

All General Contractors planning to submit a bid will receive two sets of plans and specifications at no charge. All other prime contractors will receive one set of plans and specifications at no charge. A non-refundable fee of $250 per set will be charged for any additional sets. Interested suppliers will be charged $250 per set.

Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Wednesday, April 21, 2004. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.

All bids must include:

  • Bid security (see complete bid for details)
  • All bidders must submit a PC-2 form as required by the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

A pre-bid meeting to discuss the project will be held on March 31, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. in the lunchroom at Plant and Service Operations, 210 Physical Plant Drive, Carbondale, IL. Representatives of the University and the professional services consultant will be present to answer questions regarding the project and bid process. All prospective bidders are encouraged to attend.
