The Board of Trustees of Southern Illinois University Carbondale hereby requests sealed bids for construction work on the an automatic sprinkler system project.

This project is to furnish all labor, material and equipment to remove and replace a fire pump and install a new sprinkler system in Schneider Hall located on the campus of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL. The work shall be done is accordance with the plans and specifications entitled, "Automatic Sprinkler System - Phase I, Schneider Hall" dated December 20, 2004 and provided as part of the bid package.

The project shall consist of the removal and replacement of the fire pump and furnishing and installing a new dry sprinkler system for the dorm rooms, corridors and common living spaces. The project also includes the integration of the fire alarm system into the sprinkler system, furnishing all installing new lay-in ceiling for the first floor and providing a new chases as required by sprinkler piping.

All work associated with this contract must be completed by August 12, 2005.

Two contracts will be awarded on this project. One for Fire Protection work (Contract #6991) and one for Electrical work (Contract #6990). Contracts will be issued to the contractors submitting the lowest responsive proposals that meet the intent of the bid documents.

Bids will be received up to the hour of 2:00 PM local time, on Tuesday, February 8, 2005. Immediately after closing time for receiving bids, they will be opened publicly and read.

All bids must include:

• Bid security (see complete bid for details)
• All bidders must submit a PC-2 form as required by the Illinois Department of Human Rights.

A pre-bid conference is scheduled for this project in the Lobby of Schneider Hall on the Carbondale campus at 10:00 a.m. CST on January 27, 2005. Attendance at this pre-bid conference is strongly recommended.
