SIU's Touch of Nature Environmental Center is planning a multi-user, mountain-bike-optimized trail system to provide community members, college students, and visitors of the region access to its unique 3300 acres of forest. The International Mountain Bicycling Association Conceptual Plan and partial design includes in the final park upwards of 30 miles of trails of varying abilities, a kids pump track, and an adult bike park. SIU's Touch of Nature Environmental Center requires a 5.5 mile minimum section of mountain-bike-optimized, single-track trail to be built, with the possibility of some natural-product installations where necessary. The University reserves the right to extend the trail to a 7.5-mile section if the budget allows.
A MANDATORY pre-submission meeting will be held July 31, 2019 at 1:30 PM at Southern Illinois University, Touch of Nature, 1206 Touch of Nature Road, Camp 2, Friends Room, Makanda, Illinois.
