The University awarded a contract for Nexplanon, Mirena, Skyla contraceptive products to TheraCom, Incorporated, Rockville, MD, for an estimated $99,500.
Southern Illinois University Carbondale Student Health Center will purchase Nexplanon, Mirena, and Skyla contraceptive products from TheraCom Inc, the FDA approved exclusive distributor of these products.
Mirena and Skyla are more often selected as a contraceptive option over other options due to several factors (effectiveness, tolerability, convenience). These products offer a higher level of efficacy (>99%) over other contraceptive options (~92-96%) and are important in patient populations who are prone to non-adherence or drug interactions. The volume of Nexplanon prescribed orders and consideration of the distribution and delivery process necessitates that the Pharmacy can contact vendor for all three and maximize the delivery and distribution process.
The University has determined that this purchase is only economically available from this source because the vendor is the sole distributor for FDA-approved Mirena, Skyla, and Nexplanon.
