Southern Illinois University is seeking bids from qualified vendors to furnish all material, labor and equipment for the aluminum and glass contract to construct the Student Services Building on the campus of Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois. The work shall be done in accordance with the plans and specifications entitled “Student Services Building” dated 10/13/2011. SIUC Project Labor Agreement and General Conditions shall apply to this project.

This project is for the construction of a new four level building of approximately 100,000 gross square feet and a partial underground mechanical space of 4,000 gross square feet. The building is to be constructed along Lincoln Drive where the two level parking structure is currently located. The building will be used as an administrative office building and a welcoming center with supporting spaces including offices, meeting rooms, multi-purpose rooms, lobbies, restroom facilities, exit spaces and mechanical support spaces. The project is to be designed to meet applicable building codes (IBC 2009, ADA, Illinois State Plumbing Codes, Seismic) as well as SIUC Design Standards. Exterior work includes demolition of the existing parking structure and related site (under a separate bid package), site development, utilities (electrical and water) within five feet of the building, landscaping, grading, pedestrian and vehicular paving, water, electrical and lighting.
The building is to be constructed of a reinforced concrete foundation system, steel frame, brick and stone veneer walls, reinforced concrete floors supported on steel framing, light gage metal studs, steeply sloped roof system with synthetic slate shingles, color coated aluminum thermal pane glass windows and doors, wooden interior doors, painted gypsum board walls and ceilings, acoustical tile ceilings, a variety of floor and wall finishes, ornamental railing systems and comprehensive environmental systems to include chilled water cooling, steam heating, ventilating, electrical, lighting, exterior building lighting, plumbing, ventilating, fire protection, fire alarm and emergency lighting, elevators and information technology (data, telephone, cabling) support. The project is not to be LEED Certified; however sustainable design aspects will be incorporated.
A highly recommended pre-bid conference is scheduled for this project at the Old National Lounge, SIU Arena South Lobby, on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus October 25, 2011 at 2:00p.m. Attendance at this pre-bid conference is strongly encouraged. All questions are due in writing to the A/E on or before 4:00p.m., October 28, 2011.
