The University awarded a contract for hearing aids and supplies to Phonak for an estimated $175,000.
The SIU Audiology Clinic utilizes many different hearing aid manufacturers. The clinic believes in offering their clients the most flexible and appropriate hearing aid choices. Options are presented and discussed with each client based on their individual needs. A large number of the hearing aids required are available exclusively through Phonak because of several special features. These special features include directional microphones, telecoils, multiple memory, remote controls, multiple frequency band adjustments and multiple circuit parameters. Additionally, they are extremely durable and have a very wide power range in a small casing, which is necessary in fitting even severely hearing-impaired children in a size their ear can support. The award will cover the period July 1, 2005 through June 30, 2006.
