The University awarded a contract for hearing aids and accessories to Phonak Inc for an estimated $100,000.
A large number of hearing aids required are available exclusively through Phonak because of special features. These special features include directional microphones, telecoils, multiple memory, remote controls, multiple frequency band adjustments and multiple circuit parameters. These hearing aids are usually the best fit for children, extremely durable, can be readjusted if the hearing loss changes or as more information is obtained about a child's hearing loss, and have excellent output limiting which protects a child from outside sounds that are too loud. In addition, they have a wide power range in a small casin; therefore, even severely hearing impaired children can be fit in a size that their ear can support.
