a contract for
professional pathology staff services
Associated Pathologists, Ltd.
Pathology is a clinical subspeciality in the field of medicine and a core course to meet the requirements for graduation from an accredited medical school. In the curriculum for Southern Illinois University School of Medicine students, pathology is an integral segment of the curriculum during medical school training. This instruction necessitates extensive curriculum planning and development of course materials for use at the SIU Medical School and participating institutions and sufficient faculty support for program delivery. In addition, two pathology electives are offered in the fourth year of medical school training which also require faculty support and development of course content, coordination of program activities and clinical supervision.
With no pathology faculty members holding full-time appointmants at the School of Medicine it is necessary to utilize external resources to fulfill these academic responsibilities. Associated Pathologists, Ltd. employs a fne professional staff of pathologists and has in the past negotiated with the University to provide the academic services of 4.0 FTE pathologists. Over many years, this arrangement has provided the continuity of curriculum development and delivery consistently necessary for program success.
