The University awarded a contract for academic and administrative services to Associated Anesthesiologists of Springfield for $46,908.
This renewable contract is for the professional services of a practicing anesthesiologist, Ralph Glasser, M.D., to assume coordination of academic and administrative responsibilities for either a two or four week clerkship segment for fourth-year medical students. Anesthesiology is a clinical subspeciality in the field of medicine and a core requirement course to meet the LCME requirements for graduation from an accredited medical school. The Department of Anesthesiology at the School of Medicine is without a full-time department chair or faculty and must rely upon the professional services of a practicing anesthesiologist to assume coordination of academic and administrative responsibilities. Dr. Glasser, a community-based anesthesiologist and employee of Associated Anesthesiologists of Springfield, has provided these services to SIU School of Medicine in the recent past. He has participated regularly as an active member of the Curriculum Committee and has assumed a crucial role in the development and delivery of the anesthisology curriculum including its interface in the overall medical student curriculum. He has coordinated the volunteer faculty effort necessary to provide this instruction while actively representing Anesthesiology in administrative functions of the medical school and University. The vast knowledge base, curriculum insight and administrative experience Dr. Glasser has contributed to the School of Medicine's Anesthesiology program provides solid justification for this Professional Services Contract.
