The University awarded a contract for laboratory services to Memorial Medical Center for an estimated $30,000 for the entire Fiscal Year - 7/1/01 - 6/30/02.
The services being performed under this order are for laboratory tests on HIV infected patients treated at the Medical Clinic located in the Baylis Building, Springfield, IL. Memorial Medical Center is being considered a sole source for these tests for patient convenience. Most are very ill and just coming to the clinic is exhausting. Patients often rely on public transportation or come from out of town and the need to provide "one stop service" is very important; patients need to be able to walk from the clinic to the laboratory for tests. The estimated annual cost of this service is higher than originally anticipated due to a growth in patient population and an increase in the number of tests approved by IDPH.
